Come and visit Tanjung Puting National Park which was originally declared as a National Park in 1982, using Klotok wooden boat transportation. Relax and enjoy nature and wildlife tourism, a place to preserve the ecosystems and habits of endangered orangutans. Explore the Sekonyer river and traverse several types of forests, from mangrove forests, lowland tropical forests, dryland forests, freshwater mangrove swamp forests, peat swamp forests, coastal forests and secondary forests. Enjoy birdsong, discover various types of primates, langurs (Lutung or Lutung Hanuman, the most widespread langurs on the Indian subcontinent, are a group of Old World monkeys, all of which are the genus Semnopithecus), long tailed monkeys, red monkeys, red proboscis monkeys and orangutans wild in their immediate habitat. Walk through 3 orangutan eating places: Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui and Camp Leakey. Get a new experience about the heavy rain that immediately cools the water, the clarity of the bright red sunset and the comfortable way to sleep with the purity of the water in the open night sky, in the middle of a forest covered with mosquito nets.

What you get

Sekonyer River (L, D)

Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport you will be picked up by our local staff and take you to Kumai to board the ship. This boat is a traditional Klotok wooden river boat with a roof that forms the upper deck where you can see views of the rainforest as you glide. The guide team includes boat builders, chefs and expert guides. On a peaceful afternoon, we will slowly explore the calm river near klotok while watching monkeys along the river bank. Dinner on the boat and overnight on the boat or lodging. When staying overnight, we provide thin mattresses, pillows, appropriate food, bottles of mineral water, mosquito nets, kitchens, simple toilets, etc. All available on board with very helpful guide team and boat men.

After breakfast, use the klotok to travel along the river for boating around 1 hour and then down the small river to Pondok Tanguy, a rehabilitation center for the new ex-captive orangutan Leakey where older orangutans are reintroduced into the rainforest. Lunch is provided on the boat. In the afternoon visit the food post to see the rehabilitation of orangutans who were given extra food at Camp Leakey where old orangutans were reintroduced to the rainforest. At Camp Leakey, you will have the opportunity to travel to the rainforest with your expert guides and forest guards to appreciate the flora and maybe see wild orangutans, gibbons and birds.
